Self-driving
Lesedi's own address is R512, Lanseria, Gauteng, inside the Cradle of Humankind. How long to allow
Between pickup, the homestead walk, the boma performance, the meal and the return drive, plan for around five hours rather than a quick stop. It isn't the kind of visit you can slot into a couple of spare hours between other plans. Booking anything tight around it — a reservation back in the city, a flight — is worth avoiding; treat the whole half-day as spoken for once you've booked it.
What to bring and wear
Comfortable, flat shoes make the walk between homesteads easier, and a warm layer is worth packing if you take a later start — the Highveld cools quickly once the sun goes down, even after a warm afternoon. Cameras and phones are generally fine for photos of the homesteads and the performance.
Combining with the Cradle of Humankind
Because Lesedi sits inside the Cradle of Humankind, some visitors combine it with a daytime visit to the area's fossil sites on the same trip, on a separate day rather than the same afternoon — the half-day programme at Lesedi is a full commitment on its own.
If you're coming from Pretoria
